CONSERVATORY

Saddle River, New Jersey

An all season room addition to an existing private residence.

The existing field stone and wood clapboard mansion is perched on a site that is populated by old growth trees and ornamental gardens of French style parterres. The owners requested an all season space that would allow them to enjoy their surroundings year round. The design also had to compliment the existing house.  The resulting conservatory is a gossamer like structure of glass and painted wood pilasters that stretches across the rear of the house. The expansive glass panels serve to maximize the exterior views, and at the same time, blend seamlessly with the existing structure. Painted wood dentil and crown moldings, along with decorative scroll consoles, were employed to underscore the existing house details and reflect the owner's interest in English and French art.
