PRIVATE RESIDENCE II
RIDGEWOOD, NEW JERSEY
The addition to this home included a family room, a kitchen, a master bedroom suite, and a garage with a new mud room. Working with Poskanzer Skott Architects the design was fashioned into the Dutch Colonial style similar to the original house. The site is long and narrow which drove the entire addition to the side of the existing house. A new staircase with a glass wall was constructed in the addition to join the garage and mud room at the lower level with the new kitchen space on the main level. A covered porch at the family room on the new main floor and a recessed balcony in the master bedroom on the new second floor were carved out of the main volume. These carved out spaces along with the turned gambrel roof visually reduce the volume of the overall house and add visual interest to the street line.
