Collaborating with Tinkelman Architecture this residential project is designed as senior housing for the City of Poughkeepsie, New York. The location of the building is unique in that it straddles two distinct neighborhoods of the city: one of larger scale masonry clad multi-use buildings and another which is a smaller scale neighborhood of wood frame single family residences and attached row houses. The facades of the building are a thoughtful use of brick veneer and cementitious panels that are meant to stitch these two distinct neighborhoods together. The colors employed on the building’s facades along with the building’s scale, which steps down from its taller neighbors towards the two story single family district, reinforces and visually links the overall community. In another gesture the building’s L shape plan defines a green open space that is meant to embrace the community created by this new endeavor and its neighboring taller building.
